Bacon by the truckload from Extreme Eatz Food Truck

August 11, 2013

It's time for August's cross-country Restaurant Roundup from Food Bloggers of Canada writers and in keeping with summer travels and vacations, this month's theme is Food Trucks!

Vancouver Island's roadways are slowly being filled with a variety of restaurants on wheels, with the famous orange Tacofino trucks being a popular choice for travelers and locals alike. But my personal favourite truck has settled close to home in Parksville and Qualicum Beach, as the Extreme Eatz Food Truck brings meat to the masses with their Route 66 diner-inspired menu.

Extreme Eatz is all about the MEAT, and that's how it captured my heart. Almost every menu item is smothered in some magical combination of bacon, ham, Montreal smoked meat with a variety of cheeses, toppings and homemade sauces.

This truck obviously ain't for the vegetarian-at-heart (which is nice, because Qualicum also has a completely vegan food truck La Vida Vegan to send those so inclined while you enjoy a guilt-free carnivore experience). This food truck is for the meat lovers. And love it, we do!

Extreme Eatz has been in business for over a year now, and it's great to see the black and flaming truck popping up all over our area. Their most famous menu item that keeps us west coast Canucks drooling is the oh-so-memorable Bacon Poutine. That's right. As if poutine wasn't already the perfect combination of everything we love north of the border, Extreme Eatz ups the ante by combining gravy & cheese curd-covered crispy fries with a juicy pile of bacon and Montreal smoked meat, served with a side of sweet, smokey BBQ sauce.

The flaming truck also delivers a great selection of burgers and sandwiches. The Crispy Chicken with bacon, caramelized onions and spicy Cappicola ham we tried this weekend was amazing. Messy, meaty perfection on a buttered, toasted bun that slowly compacts into a tasty wodge of flavour as you eat. I loved every bite.

It's fun to follow the travels of Extreme Eatz on their Facebook and Twitter feeds, where they announce locations they'll be parked and cooking at, special theme days (Fish & Chips Friday with Pacific Cod!), and keep fans posted on their latest bacon-y menu ideas.

This food truck is well worth a visit if you're in the Parksville/Qualicum Beach area. Tell them I sent you to devour & conquer their famous Bacon Poutine. Oh, and bring a friend... this is a meaty challenge worthy of two forks.

If you need something sweet after all that meat, check out the July Frozen Treats Restaurant Roundup from Food Bloggers of Canada with my review of Coombs Ice Cream Shoppe.
