Lefty's Pizza Fresh in Parksville

April 5, 2013

Lefty's Restaurants have been a tasty part of the Oceanside area of Vancouver Island since 1996, when a group of like-minded, left-handed foodies got together to create great dishes on Canada's Left Coast. With locations in Qualicum Beach and Parksville, most tourists and locals already know them well and have a favourite meal of their own (I go for the juicy burgers and thick cut breakfast bacon). When Lefty's decided to expand their appeal with Lefty's Pizza Fresh take-out a few years back, a great new Vancouver Island pizza joint was born.

The appeal of Lefty's Pizza Fresh is in the authentic chewy/crispy crust, the high-quality, unique toppings and how the restaurant chooses to combine them. While getting inventive with pizza flavour variations has led other restaurants to make some bad decisions, Lefty's understands their ingredients and how to put them together to make memorable signature pies with fresh-made sauces and artisan crusts.

Three standout pizzas are the Go Green, combining spinach, mushrooms, diced peppers, onions and tomatoes with a pesto base, topped with feta and quattro cheeses. The Left Coast pays tribute to Vancouver Island with smoked salmon, fresh spinach, red onion and artichoke hearts on a cream cheese base, topped with crispy onions.

Possibly most unique menu item is the strange but delicious Montreal Pizza, with Montreal smoked meat, sauerkraut and red onion on a grainy mustard cream sauce base, topped with Lefty's signature quattro cheeses. I don't even like sauerkraut and I couldn't get enough of this combination of flavours.

Another reason that Lefty's Pizza Fresh is such a popular choice for many is their gluten-free crust option. For once, those who fear the wheat can enjoy a crust that tastes like pizza, not cardboard. And with Lefty's U-bake take home option on all their pies, from the personal-sized Pizzazo to the 16 inch large, it's great option to stock up the fridge or freezer with a few fresh pies ready to bake up for dinner in a flash.

With its great downtown Parksville location, walking distance from a sunset pizza picnic at the famous Parksville Beach, Lefty's Pizza Fresh is a great choice for an authentic Vancouver Island pie that delivers on flavour and quality.
