One of my Vancouver Island Local Food Heroes

January 25, 2013

Bon Vivant on Vancouver Island recently launched a great promotion to show some love to the local food heroes of Vancouver Island. From chefs and restaurants to farmers and seafood providers, there are so many different people on the Island who make the western edge of Canada such an amazing local food mecca.

When I think of local food heroes who make a difference here, one of the first to come to mind is Jesse Jacobs, owner of Outrageous Edibles and Bedibles. A born and raised Vancouver Islander, Jesse grows a huge variety of high quality bedding plants, vegetable starters and herbs which are sold throughout the central Vancouver Island area.

Every single vegetable and herb that goes into my garden comes from Outrageous Edibles, planted in my tiny deck and garden and they provide me with a plethora of amazing local food every year. I feel so lucky to have access to such great veggie starters and I've learned so much about growing my own food from every tiny Outrageous Edibles plant that explodes with fresh vegetables throughout the year.

Thanks for working so hard to provide Vancouver Island with great quality plants to make our gardens beautiful and edible, Jesse. You are a true Vancouver Island local food hero and we're lucky to have you!

Like Outrageous Edibles and Bedibles on Facebook to keep up with all their latest news on plant starters to fill your garden this year, and keep your eye out for Jesse's plants at Qualicum Beach's Seedy Saturday on February 2 at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre.
