Out in the world and across the web

July 18, 2013

The past few months have been a really exciting time for me both as a self-taught home cook and as a food blogger. I've had the pleasure of traveling to conferences in Philadelphia, then Okanagan Wine region and Vancouver to learn more about the vast world of food and wine blogging along with a wide variety of other writers from the newest of the newbie to seasoned veterans and icons of the food writing world.

And now I've returned home and settled back into my small town Vancouver Island life, working on new projects in my home office overlooking my experimental kitchen garden, and heading to the ocean's edge at Parksville Beach twice a week to play volleyball with my friends and the largest beach volleyball league in British Columbia.

Since returning from my trips, I've been so happy to see my recipes and writing starting to gain a wider audience (thanks for visiting, new Devour & Conquer readers!). This month my Sour Cream & Chive Potato Bun recipe is featured on the US Potato Council's Potato Goodness website and will be emailed to 14,000 newsletter subscribers. I had so much fun creating the original recipe for these puffy little appetizers, and I hope that potato lovers out there try them out for summer backyard parties. You can read my full recipe and blog post here or visit the Potato Goodness website where the recipe is featured under Hot Potato News (I love that!) with nutritional information as well.

I've really been enjoying being a contributor to the monthly Food Bloggers of Canada Restaurant Roundup this year, sharing reviews from across the country each month around a different theme (ie Best Sunday Brunch or Best Pizza Joint). July's review theme was Frozen Treats, and my Vancouver Island pick was Coombs' Old Country Market Ice Cream Shoppe. You can read my review of the Ice Cream Shoppe here and see all the frozen treat picks from food bloggers across Canada here.

I've been working on expanding the social media side of Devour & Conquer, and am happy to be hitting 400 twitter followers this month. That's small potatoes in the Twitter universe, but important to me as it's great to connect with so many like-minded foodies out there on the web who see food as the great adventure I do. If you'd like to connect with me on Twitter, click here to follow @devourNconquer.

I must admit that, as I've been working on creating new recipes and blog posts, I had been slacking on getting a Devour & Conquer facebook page going. Slacking no longer, the blog's Facebook page is up and running now, sharing foodie news and recipes. Click here to Like Devour & Conquer on Facebook for updates, news and food trends. A gift basket giveaway filled with Vancouver Island goodies is coming for all my Twitter and Facebook followers in August, so now is a great time to connect.

Happy summer everyone, get out there and enjoy some sun!
